In a climate of uncertainty for countless individuals, school districts, school food service operations and organizations, the Local School Wellness Policy (LSWP) Tool Kit is a playbook for people to have a voice and the power in determining what legislation and policies are needed at the local level. We, the people, can participate in the educational process to elevate climate action and provide solutions to a broken food system. An individual LSWP exists in every school district across the nation who participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs. The LSWP Tool Kit elevates existing school district policy to ensure support and provide accountability for nutritious food security, disease prevention, physical activity, environmental stewardship and mental wellness for students and staff members. The LSWP is a powerful resource for school districts to use as a catalyst for increasing academic performance, improving attendance and positively impacting graduation rates. This playbook takes the approach for creating a whole-school district wellness network by engaging community members, partner organizations and municipalities with equity at the helm.
